The Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA) is fortunate to have incredible community partners like Mazon Canada working together to provide resources for people living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs).
Mazon Canada is the national Jewish response to hunger, an organization who has allocated over 8 million dollars to frontline organizations battling hunger across Canada. For over 30 years Mazon has been at the forefront of hunger issues and continues to raise awareness around poverty and hunger. PWA is blessed to have such a great partnership with Mazon who provide financial support to PWA’s Food programs, the Essentials market and the Food For life program. PWA’s Food Bank is the only food bank in Toronto that exclusively serves people living with HIV / AIDS. The Toronto People with AIDS Foundations Essentials market was able to provide over 19,074 distinct services to1,650 individuals.
The Essentials market, PWA’s food bank which provides staple food items, fresh produce from our community garden, pet food, home start-up items, family hampers, special needs supplies such as baby items, and special diet accommodations based on availability. The Food for Life program in partnership with Dixon Hall Neighborhood Services, is a weekly frozen meal delivery program for PHAs returning home from the hospital, experiencing severe mobility, acute medical issues, or are receiving palliative care.
It is because of Organizations like Mazon Canada that we can keep our food bank shelves stocked and more specific dietary needs are met. Community partnerships continue to reinforce the importance of collaboration in supporting people living with HIV/AIDS. We’re reminded again of what can be achieved and how individuals, organizations and the community can together benefit.
PWA’s mission is to provide practical support that will enhance the health and well-being of PHA’s. Community partnerships help PHA’s dream today and plan for tomorrow and alongside organizations like MAZON Canada we continue to do just that.
