Board of Directors: Applications Process

Do you have a passion to make a difference in the lives of individuals living with HIV, and a drive to contribute to the well-being and success of the community we share? The Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA) is currently seeking individuals to join its Board, and its sub-committees.

About PWA

Since 1987, PWA has been helping men, women, trans men, trans women, and children who live with HIV/AIDS. We are a community-based, non-profit, registered, charitable organization. Today, PWA operates with a mission to, “engage people living with HIV/AIDS in enhancing their health and well-being through practical and therapeutic support services and broader social change, and we inspire them to live into their dreams and discoveries.” PWA provides services to nearly 2,300 people living with HIV each year, making the organization one of Canada’s largest AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs).

Opportunity

Directors typically serve terms of up to three (3) years, and work to provide strategic oversight to PWA and its Leadership Team in executing against the Foundation’s strategic plan. This year, we are seeking individuals to serve one (1), two (2), or three (3) year terms. We believe it vital that Board members represent the clients and community we serve. Therefore, we seek to maintain a Board upon which people living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs), women and trans people, and people from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds come together to ensure a robust and diverse talent pool is available to engage with the challenges we face. We strongly encourage people living with HIV/AIDS to apply; however, we note that disclosure of HIV status is not a requirement of the application process.

All candidates may express a preference for aiding the work of Board sub-committees (e.g., Governance, Finance, Fundraising, Anti-Black and Anti-Indigenous Racism) as a pathway to becoming a future Director of the Board.

Desired Skillsets

Individuals with experience and capabilities in a broad range of skill areas are needed, but hands-on experience with Board Governance is strongly desired, along with experience in finance, fundraising, communication, and advocacy.

Interested Applicants

If you are interested in joining a group of volunteers who care deeply about PWA, its people, its vision/mission, and its future, please submit a letter expressing interest, together with a current resume/CV, to: Sam Latham, Board Member, at boardrecruitment@pwatoronto.org. Please do no hesitate to reach out to the aforementioned Board recruitment email address with any questions you might have regarding Board membership

Application Timeline

Applications to be considered at this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held September 14, 2021, will be accepted up until Friday, September 3, 2020; however, we note that applications will be reviewed, and individuals whose nominations are under consideration will be interviewed, on an on-going basis until all Board vacancies are filled.
